On the 16th (KST), in the 2019 LCK Summer Split Day 43 match between Griffin and Jin Air Green Wings, Griffin shut out Jin Air 2-0. As of the win, Griffin climbed back to 1st place, aiming to earn a bye to the finals. Son “Lehends” Si-woo stopped by the media room after the match to talk about the season and today's match.
How do you feel about winning today’s match?
I’m happy that we’ve won 2-0. We still have one more match left; I think I’ll feel even better if we win that.
Your opponent today, Jin Air, was in danger of going winless for the season. Weren't you worried that they had extra motivation today?
Personally, I stay tense regardless of who we face. I wasn’t that scared or careless that the opponent today was Jin Air.
In Game 1, they picked the Yasuo-Volibear bot lane. It seemed that they tried to snowball from the early game. How did you deal with the situation?
Yasuo-Volibear is a comp that’s very strong in the early game. Their weakness is that they get weaker the later the game goes. We decided to avoid fights until we scale, and tried to play as safe as possible. The 2-stack mountain drake was something to worry about, but if we stay conscious, we would be able to prevent them from actually utilizing that.
The composition you picked in Game 2 was rather unique. What was the reason?
During practice, we all tried playing those champions. Since the results weren’t that bad during practice, we picked them.
You’re back on top now. It’s been a very chaotic season, and it’s nearly over. How do you feel?
It’s a miracle that there’s a possibility that we can secure 1st place on our own. I want to do my best until the end and get that 1st place. It may be a bit early to talk about how I feel about the whole split, but as a player that is in the season, it was extremely exhausting. We lost a lot but other teams won and lost to each other so much… Even while feeling exhausted, I thought, ‘Wow, this is fun.’
Your next match is against the ‘kingslayer’, Hanwha Life Esports.
I think it’s going to be fun. One of the most important things we keep in mind is ‘let’s not play bad.’ We lost many games because we simply played bad.
Any last comments?
There’s a lot of things that depend on our last match. I’ll make sure we repay our fans with good performance.
