[WCG 2019] Interview with Living Legend of Warcraft 3: Moon

0

World Cyber Games (WCG) has come back in 6 years in Xi’an, China. The games being played in this WCG are Arena of Valor (Wangzhe Rongyao), Dota 2, Crossfire, Warcraft 3, Clash Royale, and Hearthstone. In the Warcraft 3 tournament, the living legend Jang “Moon” Jae-ho will be playing.

Moon is known as the GOAT in the history of Warcraft 3 esports. To those who aren’t familiar with the Warcraft 3 scene, he could be called the Faker of Warcraft 3. Even with his decorated career, Moon hadn’t had results worthy of his reputation in the WCG competitions. The last WCG he attended was WCG 2013 where he lost to TH000 in the finals and ended up with the silver medal. Another chance has come to him in 6 years.

We met Moon ahead of the tournament. He was rather calm and determined.

How have you been doing recently?

Hello, I’m Jang “Moon” Jae-ho, Warcraft 3 pro gamer. I’ve been quite busy participating in competitions around the world. Most recently, I was preparing for the WCG as it has come near.

Who are you looking out for the most in this tournament?

I would say TH000. He has delivered outstanding performances in many competitions this year and has a great pace right now, so I’m keeping an eye on him.

It’s widely known that Warcraft 3 is still very popular in China. How is it in western countries?

There aren’t as many tournaments in Europe compared to China, but there still are a lot of players that compete professionally. There are also many fans that keep an eye on the scene with keen interest.

You hadn’t had that much luck in WCG up to now. Which match sticks in your mind the most?

The finals against Grubby in 2008 and finals against TH000 in 2013 come to mind first. I won both first sets against them easily but was reverse-swept both times which was really regretful.

WCG has come back in 6 years. It’s another chance for you. How do you feel?

I’m very happy that I have another chance to aim for the top. WCG is a competition that has developed over many years so it’s really meaningful and I have many memories.

Even the fans that have left Warcraft 3 are looking forward to your performance at this competition. Can you share some thoughts on the current trends, balance, and meta for the fans who’ll be watching?

Through the balance patches started at the end of last year, a lot of strategies and tactics have changed. I think the balance between the races is now quite alright; I personally would like more maps added.

Any last comments to the fans that are cheering for you?

I’d like to thank all the fans that always cheer for me. I’ll continue to deliver good performance so please keep supporting me. I’ll do my best and play games without regret.
