On the 7th (KST), the LCK defeated LPL 3-1 in the finals of the 2019 Rift Rivals. After the match, players and coaches from each team sat for an interview. As SK Telecom T1 defeated Top Esports in the second game and claimed their first Rift Rivals championship title, head coach Kim "kkOma" Jeong-kyun and Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok looked happy to talk to the press.
It’s the first Rift Rivals championship for the LCK. How do you feel?
kkOma: We won the Rift Rivals for the first time in 3 years. I’m really happy that we were able to win for the first time. I believe that we were able to win because the four LCK teams were able to cooperate as one. Aside from the results, LCK became one in this tournament.
Faker: It’s the first time LCK won Rift Rivals. Through this championship, we were able to wash away some of the regrets from past tournaments. It’s a good feeling of accomplishment, and I’m glad that we’re able to enjoy this victory with other teams.
It is not certain that Rift Rivals will be continued. Do you want it to continue?
kkOma: Up to the second year, I wasn’t completely satisfied with the tournament because of the busy schedule. Now that we’re quite used to it, we prepared thinking that we really want to win in this third year.
Faker: I participated in three Rift Rivals. In my first Rift Rivals, I did think that there’s nothing to benefit from this tournament. But after not being able to win for three years, I really wanted to raise the trophy in this tournament, and I’m extremely happy that I finally did.
(To Faker) You’ve become the first player to have won the MSI, Worlds, All-Star Game, and Rift Rivals. How do you feel?
Faker: I was able to win in many because I had the chance to take part in many. I’m happy to add more lines to my career.
(To kkOma) What do you think the biggest reason for winning this Rift Rivals?
kkOma: I think we won because the teams of the LCK were able to cluster as one closer than the LPL teams did.
(To Faker) Which player was the most impressive during this Rift Rivals?
Faker: I don’t think there was any player that caught my eye.
How is it having kkOma on stage during the picks and bans?
Faker: He was always here beside us, so I don’t feel much difference.
