Griffin head coach cvMax revealed the reason why the LCK teams are running a massive winning streak.
July 5th(KST), Griffin defeated Dashing Buffalo on the 5th game of the Rift Rivals 2019 Group Stage Day 2. With this victory, LCK secured their place in the Finals. LCK fans are growing excited, hoping to see the LCK take their very first Rift Rivals trophy.
The following is an interview with Griffin Head coach Dae-Ho “cvMax” Kim.
LCK teams are dominating this tournament. How do you feel about the current situation?
I expected LCK to do well before this tournament even began. Many LCK teams tried to find the answer as to why they performed so poorly in the previous international tournaments. They tried many different playstyles, strategies, and picks, and finally, they've somewhat found the balance that they’ve been looking for.
This Rift Rivals is the first international competition for Griffin. How did your team prepare for this event?
The LCK and LPL prioritize different champions during the picks & bans, so it wasn’t hard to draft the comps that we wanted. We just needed to focus on our plays.
A lot of fans are expecting to see the LPL and LCK at the Finals. If you can choose a team to face, which LPL team do you want to play against?
It would be Funplus Phoenix. We did lots of scrims during the spring split. I think FPX’s playstyle is very similar to ours. Even though I haven’t seen how FPX receive and process feedback, I can somehow tell that they play the game in a similar manner to GRF. It’d be very fun to play against them in the Finals.
Did any of the other LCK coaches share LMS/LPL information with you?
We rarely talked about in-game things. One thing I was told is that the LPL teams like to pick Renekton and Nautilus. So, we discussed as to whether or not we counter-pick those two or simply ban them.
So far, who do you think is the tournament MVP? In addition, which player do you think didn’t meet your expectation?
Definitely Tarzan. He played Sylas and Gragas flawlessly. As for Chovy, I don’t think he’s at his best condition. I feel bad because I know he can do better.
