On the 8th of June (KST), Hanwha Life Esports(HLE) faced KT Rolster in the 2019 LCK Summer Split. Most people predicted the match to be one-sided in KT’s favor, but HLE defied expectations and came out on top. HLE defeated KT with a score of 2-0. Lava and SoHwan were named MVP for games 1 and 2 respectively.
After the match, Inven Global interviewed HLE’s bot laner Sangyoon.
Congratulations on your first win this summer. While the match was ongoing, you scolded your teammates, trying to get your team to focus on the match. Is that your role in HLE?
I guess that the more experienced players tend to do that. We always need to think ahead of time and carefully plan our next step. Sometimes we get overexcited and don’t think thoroughly.
HLE lost their first match this summer against Sandbox Gaming. What kind of feedback did you receive after the match?
We made a lot of mistakes during our match against SB. We play aggressively in scrims, but we played too conservatively against SB. In addition, during the match, Lava had made the same mistake in both game 1 and 2. We got lots of feedback from the last match and it allowed us to win today’s match.
What do you think of today’s match against KT Rolster?
We played pretty well in game 1, but we performed horribly in game 2. Although I’m not completely satisfied with our team’s performance today, we still played a lot better than the last time we played [against SB].
You've scrimmed against every LCK team. How would you rank HLE?
HLE would be about 4th or 6th. I guess we stand in the middle, performance wise. But... today’s win made me think more positively.
KT picked Yuumi in game 1. What’s your opinion on that champion?
Since Yuumi is mostly banned all the time, I barely experienced playing against her. I think she still needs further testing. Yuumi seems pretty good, but I’m not sure if she’s actually good or not... Furthermore, Yuumi sucks in solo queue.
You will face Afreeca Freecs soon. How do you think the match will go?
AF performed really well against Griffin in their last match. I think we should focus on our plays rather than thinking about them. Skirmishes between the top and mid lane will decide the match.
