New York Excelsior has had a strong Stage 2 of the second season of the Overwatch League, winning 5 out of the 6 games played so far. Last week, the team was defeated by the rising Atlanta Reign, shaking thing up for NYXL fans.
Hwang "Fl0w3R" Yeon-oh sat down to talk to us about his first video game experience and how he came to be an Overwatch League star.
What is the first video game you played that sparked interest?
I was five years old when I played my first game. I played it with my mother. It was the Korean version of BomberMan called Crazy Arcade.
Did you know then that you would pursue gaming and become a professional player?
*laughs* No, not when I was five years old! When I was in elementary school, I would come home from school and OGN would be on TV. I used to watched StarCraft players and think “whoa, they are so cool, I want to be like them!”, and then, you know, I ended up being a pro gamer!
When did you decide to pursue gaming professionally? Did you ever expect to make it this far and be here?
I was playing Team Fortress 2 before, and had decided to quit gaming and start my studies, but then Overwatch came out...I didn’t expect to make it this far.
If you could create the perfect Overwatch hero, what would it be like?
Hmm...a mainly melee DPS character.
What do you miss the most about home that you don’t have at the OWL?
I miss my friends and family that live in Korea.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
I'm going to try my best to get a chance to play more often. I always am given the chance to start, so I will continue to do so every week. When I play, I feel like I am very confident, so I hope the fans will watch me.
