The 2024 LCK Spring Split match between T1 and KT Rolster on Jan. 26 concluded with a close victory for T1, securing a 2-1 win. While KT Rolster won the first game, the following two games were both claimed by T1. In the second game, T1 managed to destroy the Nexus in just 21 minutes. The players selected as the Players of the Game on that day were Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong. Both players participated in an interview with Yoon Soo-bin after the match.
Congratulations on the victory. How do you feel?
Faker: We started the season as slow starters, so today’s match was crucial. I'm glad we were able to win 2-1.
Gumayusi: Today was the fan meeting day, so I really wanted to win. Losing game 1 without putting up much of a fight was disappointing. Still, it feels good to win the next two games and get a POG feels good.
What preparations did you make for today's match?
Faker: Recently, the draft has been quite standardized, and in that process, we focused on correcting our details and small mistakes. I think those improvements were effective today.
The top situation was good in game 1, but the bot lane struggled. However, in game 2, you secured the season's quickest victory. What kind of feedback was there after game 1?
Gumayusi: If you trail in the Draven vs. Kalista matchup once, it completely falls apart. So, instead of sticking to that comp, we decided to play something we were confident in. In game 2, it was Jinx.
As you said, you drafted Jinx and Tahm Kench, which appeared for the first time this season. Did you pick them out of confidence?
Gumayusi: I'm confident with facing Xayah with Jinx, so I picked her with confidence.
Many impressive moments happened. How was it when you got the ace?
Gumayusi: It felt good to get kills consecutively after not playing Jinx for a long time.
Is there a possibility of seeing Jinx again in the future?
Gumayusi: We try to utilize as many champions as possible, so you might see all kinds of champions, not just Jinx.
Faker played Corki, achieving a record of 19 consecutive wins from 2020 Spring until now. How is such a record possible?
Faker: Corki is a champion that requires a lot of support from teammates, and because my teammates performed well, I was able to achieve 19 consecutive wins. Also, the skin I use is very powerful, so it's unstoppable.
Gumayusi, do you agree?
Gumayusi: I think so.
The Orianna and Azir matchup. Faker, being someone who knows these two champions' matchups better than anyone else, any specific tips for dealing with them?
Faker: In game 3, the laning phase didn't go so well, which was regrettable. However, the game went well, with favorable situations in the mid-game. To handle that matchup well, it's important to hit skill shots accurately and dodge well.
The champions you chose, Orianna and Jinx, were your choices for your Worlds championship skins. Can you tell us a little about the skins?
Faker: I had a lot of input into the Orianna skin, and it turned out really well, so you can have high expectations. As a little spoiler, there's a blend of Korean culture in the skin.
Gumayusi: I mentioned Odd Eye in a previous stream, and you can say that the hair color is split down the middle, half and half.
You have collected two consecutive wins now, and your next opponent is Hanwha Life Esports. What are your thoughts?
Gumayusi: Hanwha Life Esports is in 1st place. They have a good lineup and are a strong team. Since we are slow starters and have finally activated, we'll do well.
Faker: I'm looking forward to the match against Hanwha Life Esports. They’re a team that is adjusting with new members, and I'm curious to see what kind of performance they'll show. I'm glad because it seems like it will be an interesting match.
