The final contenders for the Summoner’s Cup at the 2023 LoL World Championship have been decided. After five weeks of contests among 22 teams around the world, only two remain: Weibo Gaming and T1.
In the first bracket of the semifinals, Weibo Gaming faced Bilibili Gaming, a matchup between two LPL teams. Bilibili Gaming had reached Worlds as the second seed, while Weibo Gaming was the fourth. Most people expected Bilibili Gaming to win, but Weibo put up a great fight and took the series 3-2, winning all three games from the blue side.
As Weibo Gaming reached the finals, Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok will play in his second Worlds finals since 2017, where he won the championship. For Li “Xiaohu” Yuan-Hao, it will be his first-ever Worlds finals in his ten-year career and his seven appearances at Worlds.
The second bracket was one of the most highly anticipated matches of Worlds 2023. JD Gaming, poised to win every competition this year, faced off against T1, the winningest team in the history of LoL Esports. With super plays here and there, T1 won 3-1 and reached the finals.
The first game of this match was the 100th matchup between Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk. Although they play different roles, they played many games against each other, creating a great rivalry. This time, the winner was Faker. During the series, Faker also became the player with the most assists across all World Championships.
The grand finals, which will crown the 2023 champions, will be held on Nov. 19 at Gocheok Skydome in Seoul, Korea.
