On Aug. 26, in the last match of the LCK regional qualifiers for the 2023 LoL World Championship, Dplus KIA defeated Hanwha Life Esports 3-1 and secured the last ticket. Hanwha Life Esports fought well against Dplus KIA, but they weren’t able to recover from a few critical mistakes. After the match, head coach Choi “DanDy” In-gyu and bot laner Park “Viper” Do-hyeon joined the media for an interview.

How do you evaluate today’s match?

DanDy: I feel miserable. I thought, ‘This is how a loser feels’.

Viper: It’s regretful that we weren’t able to show all that we prepared.

What was the most regretful about today’s match?

DanDy: There are so many regretful things. Since it was a very important match, both teams weren’t playing 100%, and our concentration wasn’t as good as theirs. We made more mistakes and fell behind in almost all aspects.

Viper: As we played, our concentration fell behind theirs, and we made frequent mistakes. In important situations, we passed the decision-making to each other, and no one stood up to take responsibility. I believe that decided the outcome of the game.

You should have watched Dplus KIA’s game yesterday and tried to find weaknesses. How was it used in today’s match?

DanDy: Dplus KIA usually takes the initiative in the bot lane and collects dragon stacks. We predicted that today and prepared accordingly, but compared to how we analyzed them, our plays weren’t good enough, so we lost.

Looking back at the entire year, which moment was the most regretful?

DanDy: I think it’s when we lost to teams that we thought we would easily win early in the spring split.

Viper: When we met KT in the playoffs. Our performance was regretful.

Any last comments?

DanDy: As the head coach, I feel responsible for this result with good players. I promised the fans that I’d show good results multiple times, and I’m really sorry that I wasn’t able to keep my promise.

Viper: Thank you to all the fans who cheered for us. I’d like to tell the players good job for working so hard, especially to Grizzly. It’s a regretful year since I wasn’t able to show the fans what they wanted.
