Gen.G has solidified its dominance by securing three consecutive split championships from Summer 2022 through Summer 2023, establishing a new dynasty.

The 2023 LCK Summer Finals event was held in Daejeon on August 18 through 20. While T1 advanced to the finals by defeating KT Rolster in the decider match, Gen.G triumphed over T1 with a 3-0 sweep, announcing its ascent to the pinnacle of the league. Gen.G's back-to-back-to-back championships from the Summer Split of 2022 to the Spring and Summer of 2023 marked a significant milestone, and became the third team in LCK history to accomplish a three-peat.

Gen.G Overpowers T1 in the Finals for the Third Straight Time

Gen.G, concluding the regular season in second place, defeated Hanwha Life Esports in the playoffs' second round, and defeated T1 3-2 in round 3 to secure their spot in the finals. After a nail-biting showdown against KT Rolster, T1 made it to the finals, but Gen.G defeated T1 again to claim their third straight championship.

With T1 becoming Gen.G's final round opponent, a unique LCK history was written. For the first time in LCK's 11-year history, the same two teams faced each other in consecutive final rounds. Gen.G, having already conquered T1 in the Summer of 2022 and Spring of 2023 finals, demonstrated their familiarity with T1's strategies and began the finals with unwavering confidence. Starting from the first set of the finals, Gen.G exhibited a composed performance. With Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s Taliyah getting ahead, they secured multiple kills, amassing over a 15-kill lead to secure victory.

Similar patterns persisted in game 2, leading Gen.G to triumph. In game 3, Gen.G encountered fierce resistance from T1 but ultimately clinched victory, demonstrating resilience. Despite T1's Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong’s experienced plays causing some difficulties in the mid-game, Gen.G pulled ahead in the late game, sealing their third consecutive split championship.

Gen.G jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho achieved his sixth LCK championship, solidifying his position as one of the most accomplished players in LCK history. This accomplishment places him second only to Faker among active players in terms of championships won.

Through this 'Three-Peat,' Gen.G established a new dyasty. Chovy, who played a pivotal role in executing the team's strategies, was named the Finals MVP, receiving a 5M KRW prize and a bracelet from Tiffany & Co.

LCK Summer Final Ignites the City of Daejeon

Together with Daejeon, the LCK Summer Final set the stage for a scorching esports extravaganza. Kicking off with the Fan Festa on August 18, the event engaged fans through interactive programs and a rich array of activities prepared by LCK sponsors, transforming the event into a festival of celebration.

The Fan Festa drew 3,000 attendees on the first weekday, with 8,000 fans attending the final elimination match on the 19th and 11,000 on the day of the finals on the 20th, totaling 22,000 attendees over three days. With the Daejeon Convention Center's Second Exhibition Hall, the venue for the final elimination match and finals, accommodating up to 6,500 people, all seats were filled for both days, creating a memorable atmosphere. The Fan Festa in the First Exhibition Hall allowed fans without game tickets to participate freely, attracting even more attendees than those present at the matches.

Ensuring attendees' safety, LCK deployed security personnel at entrances and throughout the venue, conducted baggage checks during entry, and maintained a comfortable indoor temperature to prevent heat-related issues. Daejeon provided complimentary beverages for the fans in attendance.

LCK Commissioner Lee Jung-hoon expressed his gratitude, stating, "Congratulations to Gen.G for establishing a new three-peat dynasty by winning the Summer Finals. Our thanks also go to T1 and KT Rolster for creating an extraordinary final elimination match. We hosted the Fan Festa for the second consecutive year, offering it as a gift to the numerous fans who attended the event. We extend our gratitude to Daejeon City, the sponsors supporting LCK, and the fans who enjoyed the festival."
