In the 2023 LCK Summer Split match between Kwangdong Freecs and T1, Kwangdong Freecs fell 0-2. T1 had a completely different performance compared to previous games with the return of Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, and Kwangdong Freecs didn’t have enough strength to stop it. After the match, Kwangdong Freecs head coach Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho joined the media for an interview.
How do you evaluate today’s game?
cvMax: In the first game, except for the early-mid game, it didn’t feel that we would win at all. I’m well aware of why it felt like that. I’ve been trying to fix the issues, but it’s difficult to fix.
What’s the reason?
cvMax: There are several issues. We’ve been trying different drafts and plays during scrims, and sometimes it works out better when we mind multiple things, and sometimes it’s better when we just play comfortably following what we see. But it’s difficult to find the direction when we try everything, but it doesn’t work. I’ve been trying to have the players support more when someone underperforms, but it’s not been working out.
Wouldn’t it be a big problem if you can’t find the direction after two seasons?
cvMax: I had a clear direction from the beginning, and I was confident. We’re not able to pass a certain threshold that can bring us to the next level. The feedback is echoing throughout the year. I’ve been trying in many different ways, but it’s not working well.
Faker returning to the roster should have been bad news for your team.
cvMax: That’s true, but considering our performance, we’ve been repeating bad plays because we have too many thoughts in our minds. We haven’t been able to resolve the issues, so I feel that the results would have been similar, whether it was Faker or Poby.
Do you think the drafts were fine?
cvMax: It doesn’t seem good when the matchup is like today. We tried Xerath and Tristana during scrims, and it felt good when we played this way. It just didn’t connect to good results today.
Any last comments?
cvMax: I’ve been saying the same thing and saying that we’re trying to fix the issues, but it’s not been working out well. I’ll keep trying to find the right answer. Frankly, I’ve been working hard to find a breakthrough, but we practically won 2 scrims out of 40 over the week. It’s hard to say that things will be different in the LCK when you’re 2-38 in scrims. I’ll still work harder to improve.
