On Jun. 29, in the 2023 LCK Summer Split, Gen.G faced OK BRION. Although the games went back and forth the whole time, Gen.G was able to sweep OK BRION to collect their seventh win of the season and maintain their undefeated status. After the match, head coach Go “Score” Dong-bin and jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho joined the media for an interview.
How do you feel about today’s win?
Score: The games were full of ups and downs, and we could have lost both games, but I’m happy that we were able to win both games and keep our position in 1st place.
Peanut: It was a tough game today, but I felt really good today. I played Ivern, and even when we were behind, we had a light mood. It was fun playing today.
What did you think while watching today’s games?
Score: OK BRION’s performance today was really good. Compared to that, our performance wasn’t as good as usual, but we played macro well, so we were able to win.
The draft in game 2 seemed experimental. Was it?
Score: It wasn’t quite “experimental”. Those picks often appear in scrims, including other teams. The draft went that way, so we picked them.
The game was paused because Doran thought he bought Statikk Shiv. What did you say?
Peanut: There was a 2v2 in the top lane, so I knew his situation. I thought he wouldn’t have been able to buy Statikk Shiv yet [Laughs], so as soon as the game was paused, I pressed tab and told Doran that he didn’t have Statikk.
You have two matches left in Round 1, and it seems that you’ll be able to finish it undefeated. What do you think?
Score: Our performance today wasn’t as good, but I believe we’ll recover in no time. If we prepare well, we can definitely go undefeated.
You might be able to go all the way through the 2nd round too. Who are you the most aware of?
Score: Our next match is against Hanwha Life Esports. If our performance gets bad, any team could beat us, so focusing on our own performance is the most important.
Peanut: I think it’ll change depending on our performance or the preparation according to the patch version, so we’ll have to look out for all of them. Still, since KT and T1 are ranked highest, they’ll be the most difficult to face.
Ivern is often appearing. What are its strengths? Any weaknesses?
Peanut: I had my doubts when I played it during practice. [Laughs] Is this alright? Is it good? Even though I have doubts, when I watch it appear in LCK games and in scrims, I can’t really think of any champion that can counter it. It’s a good champion. Ivern was picked a long time ago, and it’s one of the top tier picks how, so I felt that the meta cycles around.
Score: Ivern’s strength is that all the laners have a hard time. The game direction changes, so the teams that practiced more get advantageous.
Any last comments?
Score: There are two matches left in Round 1. I’ll make sure that we win both of them to keep our position in 1st place.
Peanut: Since there are two matches left, I’ll prepare well to make sure that we finish the round undefeated.
