On Jun. 17, in the 2023 LCK Summer Split, OK BRION faced T1. The game was a quick 2-0 victory for T1 as they took less than an hour to win the two games. With the win, T1 collected their 3rd win of the season and place themselves in 2nd place. After the match, head coach Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong and jungler Moon “Oner” Hyeon-joon joined the media for a chat.
How do you feel about today’s win?
Bengi: We’ve been winning after the loss in our first match, so I’m happy.
Oner: We’re on a 3-game winning streak now. We’ve been pinpointing why we lose quickly, and overall, I believe we’re going in the right direction.
OK BRION upset Dplus KIA in the last match. Did you prepare anything special for them?
Bengi: It’s true they upset DK, but Deft was missing, and I believe that was an important point of that match. We didn’t do anything out of the norm.
The opponent had the initiative in game 1. How did you turn the game around?
Oner: We thought we had better late game champions, so I kept on trying to locate the opponent jungler to find a chance. As we played, it didn’t really feel that we were trailing, and I thought we could easily gain the initiative. We had faith in our abilities and did what we could do.
(To Bengi) You haven’t been coming back on stage during the draft. How long do you think it’ll go this way?
Bengi: Unless we have a big crisis, I think we’ll keep it this way.
What’s the difference between conducting the draft on stage and watching it from the coach’s box?
Bengi: Watching it from the coach’s box makes it easier to be objective about the draft when the composition is finished. I can see if it was good or bad more objectively.
You often speak about direction. What does that mean?
Bengi: It’s mostly about looking at the big picture, drafting, and how we play the game.
Oner: I believe we can improve by giving feedback on looking at the big picture in macro rather than focusing on the little things. We have to think of that first and change in the right direction.
You finished week 2 with a winning streak, and you’ll be facing Kwangdong Freecs and KT Rolster next week. How do you think it’ll go?
Bengi: Both teams are on a good flow, and they’re both strong. I don’t think they’ll be easy, but I think it’ll be alright for us.
Oner: Both teams have a high ceiling. But as I said, we also have a good flow, so I’m looking forward to what we can do. The results next week will be important for our overall summer season.
Many fans are worried about your performance this season. How do you think you can improve?
Oner: It’s true that my recent performance wasn’t that good. I often made mistakes, so it probably looked worse. But since LoL is a 5v5 game, and I have trustworthy teammates and coaching staff, we can still do good. I’m doing my best to improve, and I’ll be playing with faith in my teammates.
Bengi: I’m well aware that the fans are worried, but Oner is a great player with a high ceiling. If he fixes a few issues, his performance will keep on improving.
The opponent picked Lee Sin today. What are your thoughts?
Oner: Tanks are meta picks in the jungle, but Lee Sin is worth picking against Sejuani. There was the Annie-Lee Sin combo too. I wouldn’t say it was a fantastic pick, but it could appear.
Any last comments?
Bengi: As Oner said, the matches we have next week will be important for our season. I’d like to win them all to move forward.
Oner: Although we’re on a winning streak, we’ll need to keep winning next week and the week after that to keep our flow. I’ll prepare well and practice more to reduce my mistakes and show a better performance.
