According to an official announcement on Cloud9's Twitter account, Max Waldo, the former head coach of the organization's LCS team, has left the team after two years of working with them. In a reply tweet to the news, Waldo stressed that it was, "100% my decision to leave, I had an awesome 2 years with C9 and wish them nothing but the best. I made the decision recently, which is why I was included in their most recent team announcement." The LCS Champion will pursue new opportunities in content creation moving forward.

The news comes less than a month before the beginning of the 2023 LCS Spring Split. While Waldo's tenure with Cloud9 was not smooth, he helped the organization reach tremendous success relative to other periods in its history. He joined the team at the end of 2020 as a strategic coach and helped lead the team to a successful 2021 Spring Split, ending the regular season at the top of the standings. However, they were unable to maintain this momentum and were eliminated early on in the Mid-Season Invitational that year. Though the organization had some struggles during the Summer Split in 2021, Waldo helped the team qualify for the World Championship — posting an impressive quarterfinal finish at the event.

Waldo was then promoted to Head Coach in February 2022 after the team's previous Head Coach, Nick "LS" De Cesare, separated from the organization. Though they had a disappointing Spring Split that year, the revamped Cloud9 team managed to win the Summer Split and earn a spot at Worlds 2022. After falling out early during Worlds 2022, it was announced during the offseason that Alfonso "mithy" Rodríguez would replace Waldo as head coach.

Waldo is active in content creation — streaming on Twitch and posting videos on YouTube. Most of his videos are educational League content.
