[Update Nov.22] Gen.G announced that they’ve re-signed Han “Peanut” Wang-ho and Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon. About Peanut re-signing with the team, general manager Lee Ji-hoon said, "Peanut exceeded expectations this year. We thought he was a player that the team really needed. Obviously, we had to re-sign him, and there was no reason not to."
About Doran, he said, “Doran never thought about joining a different team, but we needed a bit of time to manage our budget and prepare to re-sign him. Despite that, Doran was positive about returning, and since Gen.G also loves Doran, we ended up on good terms.”
Meanwhile, earlier today, Gen.G cleared that the contracts with Son “Lehends” Si-woo and Ko “YoungJae” Young-jae were terminated.
On Nov 10, Gen.G announced that they’ve mutually parted ways with their long-time bot laner, Park “Ruler” Jae-hyeok.
Ruler has been a long time member of Gen.G, ever since their Samsung-KSV days. Having started his tenure with the team in 2016, he’s won a world championship, made countless finals appearances, and finally won his first LCK title as well in Summer 2022. As a long-time member of the team, this news comes as a surprise to many of Ruler & Gen.G fans because he was the franchise star of the team.
To honor his legacy, Gen.G also announced that they will retire his number [#1] within Gen.G’s LoL team. Via Twitter, Gen.G’s CEO Arnold Hur commented,
“Though we had a team option to extend his contract, when he asked to become an FA, I knew there’s no way we would stand in his way.
He has proven himself with the team every step of the way, and I respect and admire his desire to take the next step in his incredible career.
It’s a huge loss for the team in so many more ways than what fans see in the game, but I want to take a moment to thank the incredible role model Ruler was not just for our team but for our entire organization.”
Sources say that the reason he left the team is due to him wanting to see what his market value was, and that his priority in finding his next team is within the LCK, but is open to options in the LPL as well.
As for Gen.G, the team's General Manager, Lee "FIFAHUN" Ji-hoon shared in Gen.G's Discord channel that should Ruler not decide to re-sign with the team, they've internally decided to call up their CL team bot laner, Kim "Peyz" Su-hwan. Whether or not the team will actually do so or sign another bot laner remains to be seen.
