According to an official announcement on the LoL Esports Twitter account, Riot Games has allowed Fnatic TQ support Rúben "Rhuckz" Barbosa to be added as a seventh player on Fnatic's roster for Worlds. The news comes after longtime roster members Elias “Upset” Lipp and Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov tested positive for COVID-19 — delaying their travels to Mexico City for the Play-In stage of Worlds.
The Fnatic organization initially commented on the matter on Sep. 23, stating, "We are currently working closely with Riot on the matter and doing absolutely everything within our power to ensure our team arrives safely ahead of their first match on the 29th of September. Our players' health and well-being are our first and foremost priority. Both players are feeling okay, and we wish them a speedy recovery."
Fnatic released an update about Rhuckz' inclusion on the roster as well, stating that he had, "arrived safely in Mexico and will sub for Hylissang should he be unable to travel." The tweet goes on to assure that the organization will provide additional updates within forty-eight hours regarding Hylissang and Upset.
For the Worlds 2022 Play-In, Fnatic will be competing in Group A. In order to qualify for the main event, they are set to play against LOUD, Evil Geniuses, DetonatioN FocusMe, Chiefs Esports Club, and Beyond Gaming.
Rhuckz is a Portuguese support player that has competed in League for more than seven years — primarily playing in secondary European leagues and CBLoL. He most recently competed in events such as the European Masters 2022 Spring Main Event and the SuperLiga 2022 Summer Season. In the past he has competed with organizations such as mousesports, RED Canids, and Movistar Riders. He has worked with Fnatic since Dec. 2020. If he competes, it will be his first time playing at Worlds.
