G2 Esports have defeated Misfits 3-1 in the first round of the 2022 LEC Summer Playoffs. G2 will move onto the second round of the post-season upper bracket and will play next against Rogue — how have recently defeated MAD Lions in their own playoff series 3-2.
G2 jumped out to strong 1-0 lead with a one-sided first game. Their strong predictions and control of the jungle quickly allowed them to create a strong lead that Misfits were unable to realistically overcome at any point in the game. Misfits evened the score in Game 2 with a very strong draft phase and series of clever picks throughout the early and mid game, but G2 were once again able to return the series in their favor in Game 3.
The third match was the most intense of the series — there were several close teamfights, with mid laner Rasmus "caPs" Winther standing out as G2's strongest win condition. Game 4, however, was a similar affair to the first match — G2 dominating throughout almost every stage of the game.
With their win, G2 has once again qualified for the League of Legends World Championship. The European powerhouse has been a staple representative for Europe for many years now, with 2022 acting as their return to the international tournament after a disappointing 2021 campaign.
Though the roster had some growing pains in the beginning stages of the year, they showed excellent form in the 2022 LEC Summer Playoffs, as well as many strong games at MSI 2022. They hit a slump during the regular season, but were able to return to form by the end of the split with a first-place ranking in the standings. Their entrance at Worlds will mark the first time Victor "Flakked" Lirola and Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé have participated in the tournament.
