On day 42 of the 2022 LCK Summer split, DWG KIA defeated Kwangdong Freecs 2-0 in the first match of the day. Kim “Kellin” Hyeong-gyu returned to the LCK Arena after playing remotely last week due to COVID. With DWG KIA’s victory tonight, they’re now one step closer to securing 4th place in the playoffs.
The following is a post-match interview with Kellin.
Thoughts on the victory?
It’s been quite a bit since I returned to LoL Park to play. My performance wasn’t perfect, but I’m still glad we made the comeback victory in game 2.
How do you feel after a week of COVID isolation?
My body feels a bit heavy, but I’ve gotten much better. When COVID hit me at its peak, my voice was gone, so I didn’t talk at all during scrims. Practice was a bit hard.
Tonight’s match was very important for the team to break that loss streak. What was the direction of the preparation process?
We felt that playing around bot side was critical, so we talked a lot about what we can play bot lane.
Thoughts on the Sivir vs Zeri matchup?
This may be different depending on the player, but I think it’s winnable on both ends. While Sivir may win more matches, I think Zeri can also win if she plays well, so in the end, it comes down to who played better.
Talk to us about the enemy Gragas in game 2.
I somewhat expected Gragas to be bot lane, but I didn’t expect us to die. Since bot lane is very important, we should’ve called for jungle help to deal with the dive. We absolutely needed to fend off the dive.
What was the game plan to catch up to Kwangdong Freecs’ massive lead in game 2?
We felt that because Sivir raked up a lot of kills in the dragon teamfight, we couldn’t fight them head on. Since we needed Draven to hit his item powerspikes, we tried to play as defensively as possible. We did so by trading summoner spells.
How did the team internally talk about turning the momentum to break that loss streak?
During my quarantine, I was only in my room. After I finished my quarantine and met my teammates, the atmosphere around them had changed.
DWG KIA’s last opponent of the regular split is T1.
T1's a good team, but they’ve been looking shaky in recent days. We’ll have to plan around the weaknesses they’ve shown; we’ve yet to beat a top team this split, so I really want to beat them.
Lastly, what’s on your mind heading into the playoffs?
We lost quite a bit recently, so I want us to regain our form and prepare for the playoffs. I want all of us to play well and have fun in the playoffs.
