On July 10, T1 defeated Fredit BRION 2-0 in the second match of day 20, 2022 LCK Summer split. With an explosive team composition to counter Seraphine in game 2, T1 managed to beat Fredit BRION in just 23 minutes, making the game the shortest game in the Summer split so far.

T1’s bot laner, Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong, joined Inven Global for an exclusive 1 on 1 interview to talk about the victory, on ending Gen.G’s undefeated Summer split streak, and more.

Thoughts on the victory?

I’m glad that we won 2-0 tonight, and we’ll prepare our next match well to win 2-0 as well.

BRION took the dragon soul in game 1, and it felt like the game evened out at that point. How did the team react and what kind of calls did the team make?

BRION’s game 1 team comp excelled in early-mid game skirmishes, so them taking four drakes was something that we expected. We talked about how we can win even if we give them the dragon soul.

I feel that T1’s team composition in game 2 was an explosive one. Not only was it hyper aggressive, it was one where you see in those montages on Youtube due to the wombo-combo potential. Why did T1 decide to draft in such a way?

It’s because of Seraphine. After we lost to Kwangdong Freecs, we researched Seraphine, and what we can play against her. Tonight’s picks were the answer to Seraphine.

Game 2 ended in 23 minutes, which is the shortest game in the split so far. While the game may look like a flawless victory, is there anything about the game that could’ve turned out differently?

Nothing major, but I really wanted to receive the POG votes. However, because I had to play Senna, I thought it’d be hard. However, if someone shines on the Rift, they need someone to make them shine. If needed, I’m down to continue playing picks like Senna.

So the reason I seemed disappointed was because the enemy Wukong was gunning for me, even though I wasn’t the carry in game 2. I thought to myself, “What’s the point of him going for me?”

If you were to choose the POG for game 2, who would it be?

If I could give it to myself, I’d choose me [laughter]. I did feel that Zeus would receive the POG votes while we were playing.

Ga “Gamin” Min-joon, the bot laner that got called up for Fredit BRION from its CL roster, made his debut in the LCK against you tonight. After facing him, how do you evaluate him as a player?

He’s a player I met frequently in solo queue. As far as I know, Samira is the champion he’s most confident in; seeing him instalock Samira during the draft made me go, “Pretty interesting”. Because BRO is in a tough spot in the split so far, I think it would’ve been hard for a rookie like him to bring back some momentum for his team. If he continues to work hard, I believe he’ll have his days to shine.

Lucian-Nami is a highly contested bot lane in leagues all around the world, yet the duo sometimes makes it through in the draft. Why do you think that is?

I feel that there are a lot of picks that can deal with the two champions in certain scenarios. I also feel confident that I’d have no problems playing against them. I don’t think they’re in ‘God-tier’ in the meta.

You also showcased your Spring Championship ring after your win against Gen.G. Talk to me about it.

It’s a ring I received after beating Gen.G in the Spring finals. Gen.G seemed full of confidence because of their undefeated streak this split, and I wanted to tease them after beating them that night, so I secretly brought it with me. I wouldn’t have brought the ring if I wasn’t confident that we can beat them.

Many say that teams have leveled up across the board for the Summer split.

It’s natural for all teams to level up because they continue to practice and build that teamwork. However, it feels like some teams haven’t gotten that much better than Spring, while some teams have gotten worse compared to the Spring split. Every team is different in that regard.

One bot laner that’s receiving a lot of attention in the league right now is Prince of Liiv SANDBOX. After he returned to the team for the Summer split, LSB is one of those teams that seemed to have leveled up a lot for this split. How do you evaluate him as a player?

He sees a lot of aggressive angles, and it seems like he’s full of confidence. He’s definitely someone I don’t want to lose against, and I think I’d get pretty mad if I did [laughter]. I already beat him in round 1, so I don’t think he’ll be that much harder to beat in round 2.

Some say that you aren’t performing as well in the Summer compared to the Spring split.

It’s hard to remember how I actually played during the Spring split, but I don’t think there’s too much of a difference in how I’m playing now as compared to Spring. People even said similar things in Spring, where they flamed me for my underperformance.

In the end however, I won the Split undefeated and proved myself. I’m not too worried about such opinions, because I believe I’ll prove myself this split as well.
