Fnatic kicked off the 2022 LEC Summer Split in similar fashion to their Spring Split: with a mixed bag of results. They vanquished their demons on day one, tackling Spring Split semifinals opponents Rogue. The early glory was followed by a loss against Excel, before they rounded off the superweekend with an uninspiring victory over SK Gaming.

Still, jungler Iván "Razork" Martín is optimistic heading into the Summer Split. On the second day of the LEC’s opening weekend, he spoke with Inven Global about his team’s efforts to create a better team environment, aiding their improvement. Razork also spoke about his individual goals and how he had to take time to find his spot in the Fnatic lineup.

Welcome, Razork. An unfortunate loss today against Excel, but it's only the start of the Split. You've had a bit of rest after the Spring Split — how do you feel heading into the Summer?

I feel pretty confident. I think we are gonna be better as a team. Today we didn't show it — I think we had some issues, starting from the draft. But it's nothing to worry about. I'm still pretty confident that we will go far in this Split.

"It took a long time for me to realize what the team actually needs from me in the game."

I think many people expected Fnatic to take some time to get into shape in the Spring Split, given how many seasoned people had to align their views on the game. Do you feel that you're starting Summer where you left off in Spring?

We came back together earlier to change our practice and to change things that we thought we were doing wrong in the Spring Split. Of course, I feel like we will go higher with these changes. I think we are all noticing it in our practice. Today was a bit unfortunate, but I still feel like we are playing more stable.

Let's dissect that a bit more: what were the key issues for Fnatic? Towards the end of the regular Split, you were competing for the number one spot. But in the Playoffs, it all fell apart.

Hm, I think most of our issues came from the fact that we were really good as individuals but we were not tuned in as a team. We put a lot of work into that, right now, so I hope we are gonna get better results in the last Split.

I spoke with Hylissang in the Spring Split, who said that Humanoid was an important factor in trying to get the team aligned in terms of macro vision. How is that at this point?

It's fine, I think. We all learned a lot from him last Split and I think we are slowly getting all the knowledge that he has. It comes more naturally for us now.

You came into Fnatic off the back of a year in Misfits where you had to be the carry. Now, you're surrounded by people who can carry. Was it difficult to find your spot?

It was kind of hard to adapt because I came from a different profile. I was not getting all the resources, but I still got some resources and I was pulling out some wins with my champions. I felt like I had to adapt my role now. I had no issue in doing that — I feel like I can play many different styles. Still, it took a long time for me to realize what the team actually needs from me in the game. Now, I know what the team needs from me. But sometimes, we just play badly and you can't do anything. [Laughs]

"I am an emotional player. When I am happy, or if I feel comfortable, it shows."

In what way have you shifted in your role?

I feel like I need to be more aware of my lane states, I need to take care of them. They really want to play an aggressive game. I know that, if it's a 1v1 or a 2v2 they'll usually win their laning phase, but if the enemy jungler is there, it's chaos. I need to track the enemy jungler more and make sure that my lanes are fine and try to help them as much as possible, instead of trying to get myself ahead.

I think it was you who mentioned on broadcast that the team environment is also more positive this Split. Is that important to you?

Yea, I am an emotional player. When I am happy, or if I feel comfortable, it shows. It's just part of me as a person. It has a huge impact on me that we have a good mood between each other and that we are maybe not the best friends, but that we at least have a good environment.

You're good colleagues.

Yes, that.

I can imagine there was a sense of disappointment after the Spring Split, which is perfectly natural, but how did you work on creating an overall better team environment?

I think it's all about knowing each other more. When you spend so much time together in a competitive environment, sometimes it can get really stressful. You can also get mad at someone for no reason, just because that frustration hits. I feel like doing other stuff with the team, doing something that isn't League, can help a lot. You're building that connection between each other. I think it's going pretty well. The mood in the team is really good. I don't know how my team is doing after the loss. [Laughs] But I think we're gonna get it back really easily.

"It's good that EU has teams that are actually fighting for a spot in the playoffs. I'm happy that EU is popping off."

Looking at the competition in the LEC, we're in for a highly competitive Split. At least, that's what these first days have shown us. How are you looking at it?

I feel good. I think it's good that EU has teams that are actually fighting for a spot in the playoffs. I'm happy that EU is popping off. I mean, it's not like it's the best region in the world, but it's at least better than in the Spring Split.

Aside from the goals everyone has in the LEC, which are "making Worlds" and "winning the Split," what are your personal development goals in the next weeks?

Yeah as everyone, I have the goal of winning the LEC and going to Worlds. For my personal development, I just want to be the best version of myself. I had a rough Split, with rough moments in my life. Now, I am coming back stronger than ever. I want to work hard. If the results come, then great. If not, then I will have no regrets. I gave it my all.
