On June 8, the media day for the 2022 LCK Summer Split was held at LoL Park. Players and coaches from each team gathered and spoke with the media about the upcoming season. 

The media day began with a question to all of the teams’ players and coaches, asking about how they’ll head into the summer split. T1’s participants were Choi “Polt” Seong-hoon and Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. Polt answered, “My goal is to win the summer split like the spring split. I’ll work my hardest and do my best to reach that goal,” and Faker said, “My goal is to do the best as possible.”

Gen.G Go “Score” Dong-bin said, “Gen.G really want to win the summer season. I’ll do my best with the players so that we can win.” Goals for DWG KIA were similar as Lee “Zefa” Jae-min and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu said, “We’ll run forward to win the championship.”

DRX gave a slightly different answer. Head coach Kim “SSONG” Sang-su and jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon cleared that their goals were to reach Worlds and that they’ll try to improve what they lacked during the spring to reach their goal.

For Kwangdong Freecs head coach Jang “Cain” Nu-ri, his goal was to reach the finals this time. “I believe our best case scenario would be reaching Worlds as well as the finals.” Park “Teddy” Jin-seong said that his mindset was to do his best in every single game.

Fredit BRION head coach Choi “Edgar” Woo-beom said, “I think we’ll be able to get good results if we do our best as we always did.” Meanwhile, Eom “UmTi” Seong-hyeon gave the most unique answer as he said, “A personal goal for me is to beat Gen.G. I remember beating other teams at least once, but I don’t think I’ve ever beat them.”

Coach Choi “supreme” Seung-min of KT Rolster said that he’ll do his best to get better results than the spring split. Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee’s resolutions were to improve more than spring. Nongshim RedForce new head coach Heo “Irean” Yeong-cheol said, “Our results in the spring was a bit disappointing, but I’ll do my best to turn everything around, reach the playoffs and get to Worlds.” Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun chimed in and said that he’ll do his best to reach Worlds as well.

Liiv SANDBOX head coach Kim “Micro” Mok-kyoung said, “It was a difficult time for us, so I’ll do my best with the players to show much better performance compared to the spring season.” Kim “Croco” Dong-beom said, “There were too many regrets in the spring. I’ll work hard so that I wouldn’t have as many regrets in the summer.”

Hanwha Life Esports head coach Son “Kezman” Dae-young was also disappointed about their results in the spring season. “We’ll do our best to do better than spring,” he said. Kim “OnFleek” Jang-kyeom’s goal was to reach Worlds. “We’ll be different from the spring season,” said OnFleek.

Following the resolutions for the spring season, everyone was asked to pick a team that they feel has the highest chance to win the championship. Most players’ picks were DWG KIA, while Gen.G and T1 were also picked by some people.

Rascal said, “I think DWG KIA will win because their top side is the strongest,” and Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk’s thoughts were, “DWG KIA players all know what to do individually, so I think they have the best chance.” OnFleek, Ghost, UmTi, and Teddy also thought DWG KIA were the favorites.

Micro’s idea was that T1 would win since they gained much experience. Pyosik also thought T1 had the best chance as he said, “T1 had a good performance at MSI, and they have a good balance of the young players around Faker. I believe they’ll win summer too.” Canyon also picked T1 as the favorites.

Meanwhile, Faker said that Gen.G has the best chance. “Gen.G was the spring runner-up. They gained more synergy and teamwork since the spring split, so they have an edge now,” he said.

Originally, the 2022 LCK Summer Split was planned to begin on June 8, but as the 2022 Asian Games were postponed, the yearly schedule for the LCK gained a bit more time, so the beginning of the summer split was pushed back as well. The opening match of the summer split will be on June 15, with the clash between Kwangdong Freecs and Hanwha Life Esports.
