League of Legends' 2022 Mid-Season Invitational continues to be full of surprises.

One of the biggest surprises of the tournament has been the impressive showing by Vietnam's Saigon Buffalo — placing well in their group, and advancing to the Rumble Stage.  Though they've yet to win a game in this stage of the tournament yet, members of the team have said they're eager to show even more how skilled Vietnam is as a region after their two-year absence from the international scene.

One of the other big surprises took place in the Rumble Stage — where all eyes turned to G2 Esports. After some ups and downs in their domestic championship, the European team seems to improve with every passing game.  Although the LCK's T1 and LPL's Royal Never Give Up were considered the favorites coming into the event, G2 managed to defeat both in the first day of the Rumble Stage, led by Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski having a wonderful game against T1, and Rasmus "caPs" Winther having an especially strong performance against RNG.

Despite this result, many still feel T1 and RNG are the strongest teams at the event. Considering SGB will face G2 and T1 in their second day of the Rumble Stage, Inven Global asked the team's Support Đinh "Taki" Anh Tài  how he felt about the two matchups. Taki responded that, "the matchup against T1's gonna be a bit more difficult. But for G2, we're a bit more confident because we have a strong record and history against them — especially in MSI 2019. So I think we are very confident going into that matchup."

SGB indeed had a strong performance against G2 at MSI 2019 — a tournament SGB went 2-8 in the group stage, with their only two wins both against G2. The European squad later won the event. Though the team is radically different than it was in 2019, Taki feels this history is significant.
