Royal Never Give Up have fought their way into the grand finals of the 2022 LPL Spring Split Playoffs. Against Top Esports, RNG showed outstanding resilience and brawled their way to a 3-1 victory, sending TES to the lower bracket.
It was TES who began the day with a victory, rolling over RNG in just 26 minutes in the opening game. RNG bounced back strongly in game 2, with bot laner Chen "GALA" Wei looking particularly strong on Jinx.
After both teams each had their pop-off games, though, the lines were drawn and the series became a much closer affair. The third game was a tense tug-of-war that came to a sudden end. When TES focused their attention on killing Baron Nashor around 35 minutes into the game, RNG jungler Yan "Wei" Yang-Wei saw it was his time to shine. He leaped into the Baron pit with Lee Sin, kicked enemy jungler Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang out of combat, and finished the Baron with his Smite. Off the back of a subsequent teamfight, RNG put themselves on series point.
Everything pointed in the direction that the series would go to a fifth game and that the sweet tunes of Silver Scrapes would grace the broadcast. Throughout the first 30 minutes of game four, TES had a comfortable lead. They pushed in RNG's lanes and acquired the Mountain Soul, making them sturdier in teamfights. But RNG cared not for Top Esports' sturdiness. When TES tried to secure the Elder Drake buff, RNG stepped forward and crushed their opponents with vastly superior fighting.
With the victory, RNG are now one step away from their second LPL Spring Split trophy in a row and another appearance at the Mid-Season Invitational, this year held in Busan, South Korea. On April 23, RNG play the grand finals against whichever team emerges as the winner from the clash between TES and Victory Five. That series is to be played on Wednesday, April 20.
