According to a statement by Dominic Kallas, TSM Academy Support player Wang "Yursan" Sheng-Yu will play for TSM's LCS team for now. The news comes after a previous announcement on TSM's social media that Wei "Shenyi" Zi-Jie will play Support for TSM Academy's upcoming games, in order to better acclimate him to the North American competitive environment.
Posting on the TSM FTX Discord channel, Kallas provided details behind TSM's decision to promote Yursan, as well as more on why Shenyi will play with TSM Academy. "Shenyi needs more time to adjust to NA and improve within the TSM team environment. We feel that him working with the academy team will help him adjust and settle. This will smooth out some chemistry issues taking off some pressure from the current communication structure," Kallas stated. "To clarify for the time being Shenyi will be playing with our academy roster and Yursan will be playing with our LCS roster. Due to Academy rosters being locked today we had to make a public statement. Understand everyone's request for clarification and I'll do a better job going forward."
The news comes after a string of losses for TSM in the LCS. After the organization announced its intention to develop young talent following the departure of star member Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg, the new roster currently sits with a 0-4 record — tied for the last in the league. Shenyi originally played in the Chinese region primarily in the LDL, competing with FunPlus Phoenix Blaze. Yursan originally competed in the LMS and PCS — competing with Flash Husky and Alpha Esports respectively — before joining the North American scene in Dec. 2020 with TSM Academy.
No information has been provided on plans of if and when Shenyi will return to LCS.
