North America has a new LCS Commissioner. In an announcement on the LoL Esports website, games industry veteran Jack Felling has joined Riot Games as the Head of North American League of Legends Esports and the LCS Commissioner. Felling takes over for interim-LCS Commissioner Chris Greeley, who will remain with the company in another role — apparently leading North America and OCE esports more broadly. The searching process was announced in September of last year. Felling will be working with Greeley to transition into the role of Commissioner throughout the 2022 Spring Split with the goal to be ready by the Summer Split.
Though Felling has not been involved with the LCS before, they have worked in several capacities throughout the esports industry, working as a global esports head and game producer on Gears of War, a product lead on Overwatch League, as well as the Director of Product on Call of Duty League at Activision Blizzard. In the past, Felling oversaw events such as the Call of Duty League Challengers — one of the most ambitious and well-funded programs an esports league has done to support amateur events.
Felling expressed the desire to improve the LCS, stating, "I encourage all of you to share your feedback, passion, and voice with us. I want to build a league that celebrates and supports the skill of our players and teams. I believe a strong pipeline and amateur ecosystem is critical to the development of North America. Champions Queue is a great start to this strategy, and I look forward to continuing to push what is needed for pipeline development, quality practice/scrim opportunities, and pro player support."
