On Feb. 10, Gen.G defeated Liiv SANDBOX in the 2022 LCK Spring Split. There were COVID-19 issues within the team and Han “Peanut” Wang-ho and Son “Lehends” Si-woo weren’t able to play in today’s game. However, Gen.G managed to overcome the difficult situation to win the game. After the match, Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk stopped by the press room for an interview.
It was a difficult situation, but you won. How do you feel?
The game was really hard, but I’m happy that we won.
Could you explain the situation exactly?
Peanut said that he didn’t feel well from a few days ago. He said that it was hard to talk and his throat hurts. It got worse, so he tested for COVID-19 yesterday. This morning, we were told that Peanut tested positive, so we also had to get tested. It was crushing news for us.
Due to the situation, you had to play with a new support. How was it?
I hadn’t even talked to him before, and I didn’t even know his name, but we suddenly had to play together. I thought he’d be nervous and he’d feel pressured, so I tried to relieve that. I’m grateful that Lospa played well even though it was his first time in the LCK.
Game 1 was a massacre for you. How was the feedback after game 1?
We never played together so the shotcalls were really messy. Since we had to make a lot of shotcalls, we missed many plays. Even for me, I wasn’t able to find myself playing with two rookies. So game 1 was difficult.
You turned it around in game 2.
Since there were two rookies, I thought the veterans have to do better. So I tried harder to get back to senses and fill in for them.
The real problem for you will be the match against T1 on Saturday. It’s the hottest match of the round, but two members will be sitting out. How do you think it’ll go?
Obviously, since T1 is a strong team, it’s going to be really hard. On the bright side, the rookies will gain valuable experience as pro players. Even if we are to lose, we need to work really hard, fight to the end, and show a good performance. The rookies will eventually go back to Challengers, but I want to help them get motivated through this experience.
You faced Zeri today. How is Zeri?
I don’t know how to express it, but if Zeri is available, I’ll play her. I’m not sure if she’s extremely good yet. I think we’ll have to keep practicing and see how it goes. Zeri’s potential doubles when she’s with Yuumi, but even with Yuumi, without Zeri’s ult, it’s not as good. It’s not a bad champion and the late-game potential is alright.
Did Score say anything?
He said that it’s alright even if we lose, so we should keep our heads up.
Any last comments?
All the fans would have been worried a lot. I’m relieved that we finished well. Thank you for cheering for us.
