On Jan 28th, day 13 of the 2022 LCK Spring split took place at LoL Park. In the first match of the day, DWG KIA defeated Hanwha Life Esports and earned their third match victory of the split. DK outclassed HLE in both game 1 and 2, and heads into their next match against T1, the match of the week, which takes place this Sunday.
After the match, Seo ‘deokdam’ Dae-gil joined Inven for a post-match interview.
Thoughts on the victory?
I’m very happy that we got a clean 2-0 victory tonight.
It felt like DWG KIA never lost a lead during the entire series.
I’m not sure how everyone watching felt about our performance, but for us, we were desperate for a win. The series may have felt ‘boring’ to some people, but I’m pretty sure that we left our fans satisfied.
The losses from Gen.G and Nongshim RedForce must’ve hurt a lot. What was the feedback after those two losses?
We didn’t make the plays that we needed to, so our feedback focused around those plays. We especially lacked coordination in positioning for objective teamfights. Thankfully, I think that we fixed those issues in the following matches.
What are your thoughts on the LCK meta at the moment? Do you agree with the sentiment that it’s bot-ccentric?
I think the meta isn’t that fast at the moment. It feels like all games end with one team taking dragon soul, but it’s fun. People say that it’s a bot lane meta, but a lot of bot lane champions get banned out, so it’s hard to agree with that sentiment.
Head Coach Yang “Daeny” Dae-in is known for being very opinionated about how he views the game. Tell us what your experience has been like working with him.
He’s strongly opinionated, because he’s that knowledgeable about the game. That’s why I really like him, and listen to everything he says. Alongside Coach Lee “Zefa” Jae-min, we always think about how we could elevate my gameplay from my previous playstyle, and we've made great progress so far.
As a bot laner, to have ‘ShowMaker-Canyon’ as your mid-jungle duo must be very reassuring.
I look at their tags before the match to reassure myself that we’re going to win [laughter].
On the flip side, the two top laners, ‘Hoya-Burdol’, have not lived up to the fan expectations so far.
Seeing all the work they put in is very reassuring, so I highly rate their potential.
You were this close to making it to Worlds last year, so it feels like you must be that much hungrier to make it to Worlds.
I didn’t make it because I played poorly towards the end of Summer split last year. That’s why I’m even more desperate to make it to Worlds this year.
Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Lunar New Year is coming up soon, so I hope your holidays will be filled with joy! Happy New Year!
