NS RedForce faced off against DWG KIA on day 6 of the 2022 LCK Spring split. With a set score of 2-1, NS took a commanding victory against DK. The jungler for NS, Lee “Dread” Jin-hyeok was named Player of the Game [POG] for his performance on Xin Zhao in game 1, as well as on Poppy in game 3.
In the post-match interview with Inven, Dread shared that he was very happy to have beaten a strong team like DK. He also explained the direction of his gameplay, saying “I believed that our top laner, Kim “Canna” Chang-dong, would win top lane by himself, so my focus was to get our mid and bot lane ahead. It wasn’t a premeditated strategy; it was more of me trying to read DK’s moves.”
Even when he was named ‘POG’ for both of NS’ victories, Dread shared that he was disappointed in his performance because of almost getting caught out while getting vision, and that his engages were poorly executed.
When asked what he excelled at in the series, he replied, “I was able to get a good read of the game state in the early game, and was able to babysit the important lanes. I think I did well in not giving my opponents any options. While I do take credit for it, our draft went really well, and it made the games really easy for me.”
In terms of the overall teamwork, he shared, “I feel that our synergy and teamwork is becoming better by the day. There’s still room for improvement, but I feel that we’ve built good synergy so far. He also complimented on the performance of NS’ rookie support, Jeong “Peter” Yoon-su. “Peter’s a rookie who improves very quickly. He learns and adapts quickly with each match that he plays.”
Lastly, Dread shared, “My goal is to obviously win the championships in the LCK, and make it to Worlds. It’s going well so far, but I’m not going to get complacent and perform at a higher level than last year. That’s my personal goal.”
In his final words of the interview, he shared his joy of having the live audience back at LoL Park. “We finally have the fans back at LoL Park. It really didn’t feel like I was playing in an official match without the fans, so hearing them cheer really hypes me up. I hope that the live audience is here to stay, and hope that more fans will come watch. Thank you.”
