UPDATE Jan. 12: Team Liquid has confirmed Upcomer's reports stating that the team will be unable to play Hans sama and CoreJJ at the same time during the 2022 LCS Lock In because CoreJJ has yet to get his green card and officiate his status as a North American resident by LCS guidelines.

According to a report by Upcomer,  Team Liquid will not be able to play their full roster, and must choose to compete with either Support Jo "CoreJJ" Yong-in or bot laner Steven "Hans sama" Liv throughout their games in the League of Legends Championship Series Lock In tournament. The situation arises due to CoreJJ still not having a green card.

Currently the LCS probits teams from having more than two players, meaning until CoreJJ obtains a green card, Team Liquid will have to choose between not playing with him, Hans sama, or top laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau. According to the report, either Hans sama or CoreJJ would be benched in that case.

In preparation for this situation, Team Liquid has been scrimming games with Team Liquid Academy's Support Bill "Eyla" Nguyen and bot laner Sean "Yeon" Sung. Yeon will fill in for Hans sama if Team Liquid decides to field CoreJJ, and Eyla will take over for CoreJJ if the team chooses to play with Hans sama. 

Eyla has competed with Team Liquid Academy for more than a year, and previously competed on several teams in Oceania. Yeon has also been with the team since Dec. 2020, and most notably spent time with 100 Thieves Next.

Fans will not have the opportunity to see yet the pairing between CoreJJ and Hans sama.  The former has competed with Team Liquid for the past three years. His accomplishments include several LCS titles, two LCS Most Valuable Player awards, and a win at the 2017 League of Legends World Championship.  Hans sama most recently competed with LEC team Rogue — helping the team qualify for Worlds 2021.  Among his individual accomplishments in the LEC include being voted to three 2nd All-Pro Teams, and three 3rd All-Pro Teams.
