Jimmy "Mr. Beast" Donaldson and Mark Rober hosted a live stream on Tuesday, hoping to raise funds for #TeamSeas, their joint venture dedicated to removing 30 million pounds of trash from oceans and rivers. Their goal is to raise $30 million USD, one dollar for every pound of trash, before Jan. 1st, 2022. As part of their fundraising stream, the two of them and their team slapped themselves over 42,000 times in the name of the charity.

There were three types of slaps, depending on the type of donation. A $10 was a slap anywhere on the body, $100 was a face slap, and the $1000 donations earned the "mega slap." The stream also included other donations incentives, like team members eating spicy things or getting dunked in a dunk tank in exchange for reaching certain donation goals.

During the live stream, Mr. Beast also announced that a mysterious donor is offering matching funds up to $1 million USD, further increasing the incentive for viewers to donate, since each dollar would now contribute to cleaning up 2 lbs of ocean trash. As of writing this article the donation total on the live stream exceeded $911,000, bringing their total funds raised to 19.6 million USD.

Mobile game Brawl Stars, who sponsored Mr. Beast's viral Squid Game video, donated $100,000 by themselves, which was matched to $200,000 by the anonymous donor. That donation triggered a mega slap and the dunking of one of Mr. Beasts' team members.

The two massive influencers announced their project in October of this year, and in the first couple of weeks of Team Seas, they surpassed $10 million dollars of their 30 million dollar goal. The two claim that every dollar spent will remove one pound of trash. They even promoted the project on Jimmy Kimmel Live, breaking through to the mainstream. 

According to the U.S National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, each year billions of pounds of trash are dumped into the ocean by humans, much of it coming from rivers. As a result of this pollution, a massive garbage patch has been created in the Pacific ocean, known as the "great pacific garbage patch." A variety of projects have been announced in recent years with the hope of cleaning up that patch, and providing sustainable solutions for addressing ongoing ocean pollution.

Team Seas is the sequel project to Team Trees, where Rober and Mr. Beast teamed up to plant 20 million trees. They used Mr. Beast's fundraising tactics, along with Mark Robers engineering to accomplish that goal in 2019 and 2020.

Mr. Beast had a prolific year in 2021, which included publishing an IRL version of the popular Squid Game show, which ended up outpacing Squid Game's own views in its first month of publication. Mr. Beast is well known for his expensive and high effort content, and his philanthropy. He has set himself up to be even bigger heading into 2022.  

For his part, Mark Rober is a household name due to his viral engineering projects on YouTube, which include his vengeful glitter bomb packages and his squirrel obstacle courses.
