Famed streamer Guy "Dr Disrespect" Beahm revealed his brand new AAA game studio 'Midnight Society' on Tuesday morning. The new studio promises to 'flip the tables' on traditional game development by including players in the earliest testing phases of the game, to ensure the game is on the right track from the very start.
"We flip the tables on the traditional video game development model and embrace the ‘Day Zero Community'," the front page of Midnight Society website states. "That means including our players - yes, you - from the earliest most inception. That could be testing reload times and recoil patterns in a firing range or jumping in for the first-ever PVP sessions. No more “I hope this game will be good.” Be there when your voice can actually make an impact because we want to hear it. Really."
The studio's initial staff includes:
- Co-Founder Dr Disrespect
- Co-Founder and Studio Head Rober Bowling,
- Co-Founder and Creative director Quin DelHoyo
- Co-Founder and CEO Sumit Gupta
- Gameplay Engineer Ryan Thompson
- Concept Artist Eric Hallquist
- Marketing and PR HB Duran
The studio, which uses the @12am handle on Twitter, was previously teased back in August when the Doc posted a Tweet looking for a studio head and co-founder. He has also teased his intention to build a "Vertical BR" at that time, though no new information has been revealed about what game Midnight Society is working on, beyond a single cryptic screenshot that the Doc has shown in the past. Dr Disrespect traditionally plays FPS titles, so it is safe to assume this will be an FPS game.
For those who are interested in working at Midnight Society, they have posted numerous remote positions on the website.
Streaming community reacts to Dr Disrespect's studio announcement
There was a tremendous outpouring of support for the Doc's move on Tuesday. Streamers like CouRage, Nick Mercs, FaZe Kalei, and many others posted messages of encouragement and excitement in response to the news.
It is clear there is a lot of excitement around Dr Disrespect's endemic game design, which promises to bring a new model and focus to his game, in the midst of a disappointing year for many FPS fans, as games like Battlefield, Vanguard, and Halo continue to receive backlash from their various communities. We can expect more announcements and details about Midnight Society soon.
