Riot Games issued a competitive ruling on Tuesday, clarifying that Team Liquid player Nivera, who tested positive for COVID this past week, will still be able to play with his team if he feels up to it. They have created a policy allowing positive players to play on LAN from an isolated room in quarantine, while their team and the opposing team compete from separate practice rooms.
"In the event that a player returns a positive result for COVID-19, but feels well enough to compete and chooses to play, the affected team and their opponent will play the scheduled match on a LAN network built in the quarantine facilities," explained Alex Francois, Global Head of Competitive Operations. "The player who tested positive will compete from an isolated room while their teammates and the opposing team will compete from two nearby practice rooms. The order of matches on a given day is subject to change."
As a result of TL's decision to play offsite, their initial group stage matches will be moved to the end of the matchday on Wednesday.
Players at the event are expected to take daily antigen tests, as well as twice-weekly PCR tests, which are more reliable. Riot Games set up their new policy allowing players to compete on LAN from quarantine following the disastrous circumstances surrounding their NA LCQ, where they were forced to move the whole event off LAN due to players testing positive for COVID. At Champions they are much more prepared for this reality, and as a result, players who feel up to playing won't necessarily have to sit out matches.
