UPDATE Nov. 29, 07:00 PT:

At the time of writing, it looks increasingly likely Leffen won’t be able to attend Summit, with new restrictions related to the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus expected in coming weeks. He tweeted on Monday, 29th November that he will struggle to make it into the US with the current state of international travel, and is concerned that he could become stranded if he did successfully travel for the event, leaving him unable to return home to Sweden.

The Super Smash Bros. Melee community is celebrating some big news: William "Leffen" Hjelte has f--king finally gotten his visa.

In a tweet on November 23 morning, Leffen excitedly exclaimed in all caps that he finally got his visa sorted. This comes after a long, dramatic battle with visa issues earlier this year, including Leffen missing Smash Summit XI this past summer.

"So happy to FINALLY be able to travel again. Been going mad sitting at home missing everything," Leffen tweeted.

The Smash community immediately celebrated the news, with other pros like iBDW congratulating him for coming out on top of the situation. Fans expressed happiness over getting to see Leffen compete again. But would this include the upcoming Summit or other major Smash World Tour qualifying events?

In response to this, Leffen tweeted: ;)

Smash Summit 12 is quickly approaching. It will take place from December 9th to the 12th, put together by Beyond the Summit. Smash Summit is only a few weeks away but Beyond the Summit has just confirmed that Leffen is invited to the Los Angeles-based event.

There are a few more events this year, including the Smash World Tour finals. It's definitely possible that Leffen will be making other appearances in 2021. This is something that the Super Smash Bros. Melee community is heavily anticipating now that Leffen's hard-fought battle with acquiring a visa is finally over.

Leffen will be competing against Zain, aMSa, Mang0, and Pipsqueak at Smash Summit 12, along with five crowdfunded Melee players that are yet to be announced.
