Apex Legends is officially the most popular battle royale title on Twitch, at least for the first week of November.
According to Twitchtracker, Apex Legends is currently ranked fifth in viewership overall, pulling an average of 97,800 viewers, which beats out all other BR titles like Warzone and Fortnite. Their numbers are also narrowly beating Call of Duty: Vanguard, despite the hype of Vanguard's recent release. It is also besting VALORANT, a game that has also seen significant success on Twitch.
The rise of Apex Legends has been slow and steady over the past year. While Warzone previously held the Twitch throne, and before that Fortnite held the Battle Royale title, Apex Legends has quietly been gaining popularity. The game saw a huge boost of players heading into Season 10 this summer after numerous influencers like Nick Mercs and TimTheTatman made the jump over to the game from Warzone, which was (and is) overrun by hackers.
Since coming over to the game, influencers like Nick Mercs haven't just been bringing their audience in, they have also been actively organizing events. For example, Nick Mercs recently hosted the MFAM Gauntlet, a $50,000 tournament sponsored by EA. These events have certainly helped boost Apex Legends in the public eye, and drive more viewership to the game on Twitch.
The game's recent success is also aided by the fact that Season 11 recently dropped, bringing with it a brand new map, new gun, and the new Legend Ash. The new season has been getting pretty positive feedback overall, from both casuals and pros.
For its part, Warzone has slid all the way down to 14th on the overall list of games on Twitch, pulling less than half the views Apex Legends does on average. The slide, to be fair, is likely due in part to the release of Vanguard, since many Call of Duty: Warzone players are likely also interested in that game, splitting the overall COD viewership between multiple titles.
Regardless of the reason why, it is clear that Warzone is suffering in interest, at least for now. Activision has been hyping up the Pacific update for Warzone, which drops in December and is bringing a new map, new guns, and an anti-cheat system for the first time. Only time will tell if these changes will be enough to bring back players and viewers to Warzone.
