According to a report by Dot Esports, G2 Esports is signing former MAD Lions Madrid bot laner Victor “Flakked” Lirola to replace Martin "Rekkles" Larsson as the AD carry for the team. The reported signing of Flakked will occur after Riot’s free agency period opens starting Nov. 16, reportedly alongside G2 Esports' acquisitions of FC Schalke 04 top laner Sergen "Broken Blade" Çelik and Karmine Corp support Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé.
G2 has also reportedly had a major overhaul in the team’s staff, with head coach Fabian "GrabbZ" Lohmann reportedly joining Team BDS for the 2022 LEC season following the organization's purchase of FC Schalke 04's franchise slot in the league. The three new players will reportedly play alongside mid laner Rasmus "Caps" Winther and jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski; the former had his contract extended by G2 Esports earlier in the year through 2023.
Flakked compete throughout 2021 in the European Regional League. Though his team in Spain’s SuperLiga failed to produce any significant results, his individual performance reportedly was noticed by several LEC organizations.
Flakked has reportedly had tryouts with G2 Esports around the same time the org expressed interest in MAD Lions AD carry Matyáš "Carzzy" Orság. Those tryouts reportedly continued despite tension between the organization following accusations of tampering against G2 by MAD.
Adding Rekkles to the roster began a year of inconsistency. Though boasting a strong first-place finish in the regular season of the LEC 2021 Spring, as well as an MVP award for Rekkles, the team lost in the Spring Playoffs, finishing third. After a regular season filled with unpredictability in LEC 2021 Summer, G2 narrowly missed out on an invite to the League of Legends World Championship—placing fourth in the LEC Championship.
Martin "Rekkles" Larsson is considered one of the most talented Western players of all time. In Europe, individually he has been voted nine times the EU All-Pro team, as well as been given four MVP awards. With his teams he has won the LEC several times, and was a finalist at the 2018 League of Legends World Championship. If and where Rekkles will play next is unknown.
The future of G2 top laner Martin "Wunder" Hansen and support Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle, as well as strategic coach Nelson Sng, are also currently unknown.
