EDward Gaming has qualified for the finals of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship after an epic 3-2 win over Gen.G. Worlds 2021 is the first time EDG has ever made it past the quarterfinals of the World Championship, and next week, the LPL champion will face off against DWG KIA to see who lifts the Summoner's Cup at the end of the season.

EDward Gaming came into the series favored against Gen.G, and that dynamic was a proven point in the first game of the series. Gen.G, while having strong individual picks, lacked cohesion in its composition. However, Gen.G bounced back after game 1, winning the next two clashes with EDG and taking the series to match point.

Regardless of a historically unparalleled run of dominance domestically, EDG had never lived up to expectations internationally, but the squad at Worlds 2021 made sure that trend was put to an end. EDG won the last two games of the series in dominant fashion and will face off against LCK champion DWG KIA in the finals of the 2021 World Championship.

The upcoming final between EDward Gaming and DWG KIA will mark the second consecutive China vs. Korea final at the World Championship following DWG KIA — who, at the time, was called DAMWON Gaming — against Suning. Before 2020, the last time a Chinese and Korean team faced off against one another in the final was in the final of the 2014 World Championship between Samsung White and Starhorn Royal Club.

This is the furthest EDG has ever gotten at a World Championship, which may be extra special to support Tian "Meiko" Ye. Meiko started his career with EDG in 2014 and has never left, and after over 850 games of competitive play with the squad, has found himself in his first career Worlds final.
