According to a report by Dot Esports, Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau will not be renewing his contract with Fnatic, ending his four-year tenure with the prestigious European organization. The decision comes shortly after Fnatic exited the 2021 League of Legends World Championships in the group stage.

While Bwipo played the Summer Split as a jungler, he will reportedly most likely be returning to his long-time position in the top lane. He is apparently open to playing in the future in multiple roles—including AD carry, mid lane, and jungle—but will most likely go back to the top lane. Not much information has come out regarding potential landing spots for Bwipo, but several organizations have shown interest in the veteran player, including the LCS’s Team Liquid.

Bwipo is one of the most decorated top laners in Western League of Legends history. He has achieved many individual awards—voted in the EU LCS/LEC to three 3rd All-Pro Teams, as well as two 2nd All-Pro Teams. Domestically, he has helped bring Fnatic two European championships. On the international stage, he helped his team win the 2018 and 2019 iterations of Rift Rivals. Additionally, he helped bring Fnatic to four appearances at Worlds, including a spot in the finals during the 2018 iteration of the event.

Bwipo’s played his final split with Fnatic as a jungler. In the 2021 LEC Summer Split, Bwipo swapped out of the top lane to make room for rising star Adam "Adam" Maanane as well as fill in the spot of the departing Oskar "Selfmade" Boderek. Though fans and analysts considered this move to be a success, the possibility of him remaining a jungler now seems questionable.

Fnatic must now fill in the spot of one of their team leaders, and one of their longest held players.
