League of Legends European Championship #3 seed Fnatic has announced that starting AD carry Elias "Upset" Lipp will be unavailable to start for the squad in the group stage of  2021 World Championship until further notice. Upset is returning home from Worlds 2021 abruptly and just before Fnatic's first game at the event due to an urgent family matter, a situation in which Fnatic has asked for privacy for its AD carry.

In Fnatic's announcement, which was made public via the organization's official Twitter account, stated that Louis "Bean" Schmitz had been prepping with the rest of Fnatic's LEC squad for the past few days in lieu of Upset's unavailability. Bean, who has started for Fnatic's academy team Fnatic Rising throughout the 2021 NLC season, has been named Fnatic's starting AD carry in its first match against #4 League of Legends Champions Korea representative Hanwha Life Esports in Group C.

The loss of Upset on Fnatic's starting roster cannot be understated. Alongside a career split for FNC support Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov, Upset formed the best bot lane in Europe and arguably one of the strongest duos in the world heading into Worlds 2021.

Bean has done well with Fnatic Rising in the second tier of European League of Legends esports competition, holding one's own at Worlds, especially in more-than-occasional 1v2 laning situations due to the heavy-roaming style of Hylissang, is a task on an entirely different plane than fulfilling one's role on FNCR.

Fnatic looks to have a chance to escape Group C alongside one of HLE, #3 League of Legends Professional League representative Royal Never Give Up, and Pacific Championship Series #1 representative PSG Talon, but it's undeniable that those chances with Bean in place with Upset will be lesser. Still, Fnatic's language implies that Upset could return to the starting roster for Worlds 2021, even as soon as still within the Group C schedule.
