The Vietnamese Championship Series (VCS) will reportedly not be sending any representatives to Worlds 2021, according to a report from Thethao.vn published on Wednesday. The region was also notably absent during Worlds 2020 and MSI 2021 due to COVID-19 complications, making Worlds 2021 the third international tournament in a row without Vietnamese representation.

According to Kieu Trang at Thethao.vn, the reasons for the region's cancellation are related to restrictions surrounding the Vietnamese teams securing visas to travel to Worlds 2021 in Europe in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"A source from Thethao.vn said that Garena and Riot Games had previously considered choosing the reigning GAM Esports champion and the runner-up Saigon Buffalo of the Spring 2021 season to represent VCS at the 2021 World Championship," Trang explained in their report. "Two teams GAM Esports and Saigon Buffalo applied for an entry visa to Guangdong province, China to attend Worlds 2021. However, the visa application process of GAM Esports and Saigon Buffalo was unsuccessful. In addition, Riot Games has also announced that Worlds 2021 will move the venue to Europe instead of China as originally planned."

The news that the VCS won't be able to attend Worlds 2021 follows the complete cancellation of the VCS Summer Split playoffs earlier in August. The TOs for the region cited COVID-19 issues in Vietnam and licensing challenges as two of the factors in that decision. Following that cancellation, organizers of the VCS indicated they would try to find another way to qualify teams to Worlds 2021, but as reported above those plans have fallen through.
