Overwatch League announced on Wednesday afternoon that they will be canceling their live events in Dallas and Los Angeles, and will instead return to Hawaii for the post-season playoffs. The league cited the health and safety of all participants as the driving force behind the decision.

"Unfortunately, since we originally announced plans for the postseason, the environment has changed significantly," Jon Spector, Overwatch League VP, said in a statement. "After continued consultation with our teams, we are no longer confident that all of them would be able to travel to the United States with their full rosters. We have therefore made the difficult decision to pivot from live events centered around Dallas and Los Angeles and will instead return to Hawaii for postseason competition."

The original playoff schedule called for the playoffs to take place at Esports Stadium Alrington, followed by a finals event in Los Angeles. However, with ballooning COVID-19 numbers and the related travel restrictions, there were too many barriers for the original plan to go through. Instead the Overwatch League will return to Hawaii, where they have hosted three global tournaments this year between NA teams in Hawaii and APAC teams playing from home.
