After nearly six months of waiting, fans of Blizzard Entertainment's collecticle card game, Hearthstone, will be able to feast their eyes on an upcoming game mode called Mercenaries in an event being held next week.
First teased during BlizzConline back in February, the brand new game mode combines roguelike and dungeon crawling elements to create a playing experience unlike anything in the game's seven-year history. Initially scheduled to arrive months ago, the development team delayed the mode's launch back in June to ensure it was fully completed prior to going live.
In an announcement on Tuesday afternoon, the Hearthstone development team unveiled a live stream event coming on Tuesday, August 31 on both Twitch and YouTube. Hosted by Game Director Ben Lee, Game Designer Joe Killion, and User Interface Designer Hasiba Arshad, the one hour event will showcase gameplay, features and the official launch date of Mercenaries. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. PT.
Individuals who choose to watch the showcase stream on Twitch during the time period will receive up to two United in Stormwind card packs. In order to be eligible to earn the packs, users must be logged into their Twitch account while watching the stream and then claim the drops on the channel itself during or after the event.
As for when the game mode will be released, that secret may have been accidentally leaked earlier in the day.
In a now privated video, members of the game's community noticed that someone on the Hearthstone team posted the official Mercenaries reveal video to the game's YouTube channel with a launch date included in the description. It didn't take long for the game's subReddit to be flooded with screenshots of the video and the reveal date of October 12 to begin circulating.
