Herschel "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm is suing Twitch over his now-infamous permanent ban from the platform, according to comments the streamer made on his YouTube stream on Monday.
"A lot of people ask me, 'do you know the reason', yeah I do know the reason. I have known the reason for [my permanent ban] for months now," the streamer explained on his stream. "I'll just say this right now champs, there is a reason why we are suing the f**k out of them. I don't know how else to put it, the amount of damages and you just don't.... no. no."
Dr. Disrespect was banned from Twitch in June of 2020, for an unnamed reason. Despite over a year of speculation on the topic, neither Twitch nor the streamer has yet stated the reason for the ban publicly. Dr. Disrespect was one of the most followed streamers on Twitch at the time of his ban, coming in at the 8th most followed streamer on the platform. He has since moved over to YouTube as his streaming platform.
"Our ultimate bigger building out of the umbrella and the Doc universe, and everything, whether its obvious or not the blacklisting, the shadowbanning.... it's happening," Doc explained. "As well as you think we are doing, and we are doing well... enough, but I'll tell you man, it's been extremely disheartening, it's been a rollercoaster of emotion, and it absolutely f**king sucks."
When Twitch did ban the streamer last year, they released a statement saying: "As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”
Since his ban, Twitch streamers have reportedly not been able to stream with the Doc as reported by Michael Gwilliam of Dexerto. According to Twitch's community guidelines, streaming with Dr. Disrespect would constitute suspension evasion, since it would involve the promotion and inclusion of a prohibited user.
We can expect to learn more about the reasons behind the ban if Dr. Disrespect does indeed move forward with a lawsuit.
