Misfits has been eliminated from the 2021 League of Legends European Championship Summer Playoffs at the hands of Fnatic in a 3-2 victory for the orange and black. MSF's 2021 season has come to an end, while Fnatic's lower bracket run will continue with its next match of the post-season against G2 Esports on Sunday.

Due to its 4th place finish in the 2021 LEC Summer Split, Misfits started the post-season in the upper bracket against 1st place Rogue. MSF put up a good fight and exceeded general expectations by taking Rogue to a game 5, but ultimately did not crack another nexus after Silver Scrapes rang out through the LEC studio. Rogue took the series 3-2, and MSF was sent to the lower bracket.

Fnatic started its post-season in the lower bracket with a close 3-2 win over Team Vitality, eliminating the latter from the LEC Summer Playoffs. Fnatic then moved on to face Misfits, who, like VIT, put up a fight, but like RGE, FNC edged out the series and as a result, MSF joined VIT in elimination from the post-season.

The 2021 LEC Summer Playoffs is down to four teams and just as many remaining matches. Rogue and MAD Lions, who won their first upper bracket matches against Misfits and G2 Esports, respectively, will play against one another to see who goes to the finals undefeated. The loser of the match will wait for G2 Esports and Fnatic to play to see who its next opponent will be.

In addition to a top 3 post-season finish on the line, G2 Esports and Fnatic's match has other stakes. The victor of the match will qualify for the 2021 World Championship alongside MAD Lions and Rogue as the LEC's three representatives.

The FNC-G2 rivalry is the most storied in European League of Legends history, and in context of legacy, the implications of this match are massive. Fnatic has not missed a World Championship since 2016. G2 Esports, who joined the LEC back when it was the EU LCS in 2016, has never missed a World Championship since arriving at the premiere level of competition.
