The meta of Teamfight Tactics has begun to settle as players have become more and more adept at navigating the new units, comps, and synergies that the mid-set update has brought. The extra week of Patch 11.15 was particularly helpful to many TFT players, who gained some extra experience with these new champions without having to worry about any major changes to the meta (apart from a relatively small mid-patch adjustment).
Patch 11.16 featured some very big changes to the Abomination (an overall nerf) and Legionnaire (an overall buff) traits. There were also some significant item changes to both regular and Radiant items, along with the typical champion buffs and nerfs. Champions like Lucian, Nocturne, Galio, Irelia, and Tristana all got significant changes in this patch, but there were also some more under-the-radar adjustments to champs like Akshan, Gwen, Lee Sin, and Yasuo which appear to be more impactful than the patch notes let on.

While many of the top comps in the TFT tier list were covered in the Patch 11.15 tier list breakdown, for Patch 11.16 we will focus more on those new comps rising to the top, or the other effective comps not covered in the last week’s list. The breakdowns will cover both itemization and positioning, so make sure to pay close attention!
Heimerdinger Abomination/Revenant comp
Sort of an off-shoot of the “Bill Gates” comp that includes champions like Teemo, Heimerdinger, Gwen, and Volibear, this comp is all about those high-cost champions and buffing them up. However, the Abomination/Revenant comp also has the benefit of decent(ish) presence in the early game so you don’t lose too much health as you scale up and accumulate items. In fact, two of the core Heimerdinger items (Shojin and Guinsoo’s) can both be held by either Brand or Kalista until you get a Heimerdinger. Just make sure that you have extra copies or a magnetic remover so you can swap these items onto Heimer and not lose that Abomination bonus.
This is important because the Monstrosity is probably what you’d consider to be the “secondary” carry for Heimerdinger, but in truth he’s really just another line of defense. Bulking up the Monstrosity as well as the front-line Revenants (particularly Volibear and Fiddlesticks) are key. If you don’t get a lot of attack speed items, you can feel free to throw extra AP items onto Fiddlesticks instead.
Tristana Hellions comp
Riot tried to nerf down the Tristana comp (and Hellions overall) in Patch 11.16, but she’s still just as potent as ever. This comp spikes hyper early, so make sure that you have both banked gold and gotten a lot of early Hellions if you want to commit to this. Scouting early to make sure you’re not getting contested (especially on Tristana) is going to be key. If you can’t 3-star Trist, you can also swap items to Teemo and transition this comp into that Bill Gates comp (Revenant/Invoker).
Another option in this comp, by the way, is to swap out Ziggs and Thresh for Kled and Nautilus. This will allow you to add in a Rell should you manage to get a Force of Nature (or hit Level 9, which is unlikely) and get the Ironclad bonus for all your units. In general, the Ziggs vs. Kled determination will be made early on, based on what you end up hitting more of.
Jax Ironclad/Skirmisher comp
Jax is back! Even though he was relatively strong in Patch 11.15, players have begun to realize just how broken the Jax/Irelia pairing can be in Set 5.5 and the good news is that, while this is their ideal comp, they have a lot of flexibility.
From this basic Ironclad/Skirmisher comp you have a lot of options. The four Knights serve as your main frontline here (along with Irelia), but you can drop two of them (I’d recommend Galio and Thresh) along with Miss Fortune to get 6 Skirmishers if you want. Or, you can swap MF for one other Sentinel (Lucian would be ideal) for the Sentinel bonus on Irelia and more tankiness. Finally, if you can’t find a Garen, you can also just add Leona and Vel’Koz for a secondary Redeemed splash on three. There are a LOT of different choices you can take this basic comp.
Draven Forgotten/Ironclad comp
A lot of players will run this comp with MF as the primary carry, but I think that Draven is the more effective carry. Of course, if you end up getting a lot of AP items or you manage to three-star Miss Fortune, she is a perfectly viable primary carry. In addition, should you manage to hit Level 9 (or get a Force of Nature), you can add a Jax to this comp to improve the Ironclad buff. As far as itemization goes, any defensive items can work on Hecarim so don’t feel constrained to those shown.
