Rogue has won its first match of the 2021 League of Legends European Championship Summer Playoffs, but Misfits did not make it easy. RGE narrowly triumphed over MSF in a five-game epic and has guaranteed one of three European representative spots for the League of Legends World Championship.

As the 4th seed facing off against the first seed in the first round of the post-season, Misfits came into the match against Rogue as the underdog despite holding a top 3 position in the standings for the majority of the Summer Split.

After showcasing impressive form in a best-of-one format, Misfits' ability to remain competitive throughout a best-of-five series was considered a question mark, especially against the likes of a Rogue roster with far more experience in post-season situations, including a run to the finals in the 2021 LEC Spring Playoffs with the same five players that continue to start for the team in the Summer Playoffs.

MSF exceeded expectations by pushing RGE to game 5, but ultimately, will have to settle for the lower bracket, where it will wait to see who wins the first lower bracket match between Fnatic and Team Vitality.

Rogue will wait for MAD Lions and G2 Esports to play on the other side of the upper bracket to see who its opponent will be in the semifinals. Both semifinalists will qualify for the World Championship by default, but the team that wins the seminifals and goes on to the finals undefeated guarantees at least a top 2 seed in terms of European representation at Worlds 2021.

Misfits will face off against the winner of FNC and VIT, and the winner of that match will face off against the loser of G2 Esports and MAD Lions in the upper bracket. The winner of that match will guarantee the final World Championship qualification and will face off against the loser of the semifinals to see who faces the sole remaining undefeated team in the finals of the LEC Summer Playoffs.
