An exclusive report by South Korean publication Naver Sports has stated that a source close to the Vietnam Championship Series has confirmed that the 2021 VCS Summer Split will be canceled. The Summer Split has already been delayed for several weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, and while no official announcement has been made, it looks as though Vietnam may have to find another way to decide who will represent the country at the World Championship this fall.

According to the report, there are four reasons why the VCS Summer Split is being canceled. The report reads as follows:

First, it is difficult to keep up with the schedules of other leagues, even if the VCS, which has been delayed for a long time, proceeds with a single-piece league from now on. The second is due to the Corona 19 situation in Vietnam. The third is that he did not receive a license to hold an online competition. The fourth is that the contract issue between Vietnam LoL publisher Garena and Riot Games has not been resolved.

The beginning VCS Summer Split has been postponed for weeks due to the large amount of COVID-19 cases in Vietnam, and Vietnam has also missed the last two international LoL Esports events, the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational and Worlds 2020, for the same reason.

As VCS pros continue to try and keep their skills sharp in Korean solo queue, the league will have to figure out how it will be sending teams to China to represent the country at Worlds 2021. The VCS will either be allowed to send its 2021 spring champion GAM Esports alongside runner-up Saigon Buffalo, or a regional qualifier featuring the top four regions will have to be played for the two seeds.
