UPDATE 8/1:  Maximilian Peter Schmidt, Riot Games' Head of Esports for League of Legends in Europe & MENA, has confirmed that in addition to the Akshan being disabled for the rest of the 2021 season in the League Championship Series and League of Legends European Championship, the Rogue Sentinel would also be disabled for the World Championship. Whether other regions will follow suit has yet to be seen, but if Akshan is disabled for Worlds 2021, it is a likely outcome.

When prompted in replies, Schmidt provided context on the decision.

Original story:

Akshan will have a date with the League of Legends World Championship later this year, but domestically, he's already been stood up by two major regions. The LCS confirmed with Inven Global that it would be mimicking the LEC. This means that on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, Akshan will not make an appearance.

Akshan was released before the penultimate week of both Summer Splits in the LCS and the LEC on Patch 11.15 and became enabled for competitive play the following week, but then, Schmidt tweeted that per LEC rules, Akshan would be disabled for the final week of the Summer Split and for the entirety of the Summer Playoffs.

Schmidt also said that because Akshan would be available to play in the World Championship, the LEC asked the teams in the league if they wanted the rule to change. According to Schmidt, most teams declined the offer.

This is not the first champion to be disabled in the LEC this year. Viego was disabled for the entire first half of the 2021 LEC season because of a myriad of bugs that had gone unfixed since his release posed a potential threat to competitive integrity.

While the LEC was the only reason to announce it was disabling Viego, the Ruined King was mysteriously missing from every other Riot-sanctioned league around the world during the same period of time, and was also disabled at the Mid-Season Invitational, which was the first international tournament of 2021.

The LCS did not announce that Akshan was disabled, but after a question asked to 100 Thieves General Manager Chris "PapaSmithy" Smith by implied that the Rogue Sentinel would not be appearing in the 2021 LCS Championship, Inven Global reached out to confirm with a representative of the LCS that this was the case. Since Worlds 2021 is taking place in China, Akshan will not appear in a competitive match on the western hemisphere until 2022 at the very earliest.
