On day 20 of the 2021 LCK Summer split, DWG KIA swept Gen.G 2-0 in the 2nd match of the day. It was a performance by Gen.G that reminded the fans that they were back in their prime form.

Game 1 was all about Kim “Khan” Dong-ha’s Viego. Despite Gen.G focusing around the top side of the map, Viego was able to absolutely dominate in the mid-game teamfights. Khan’s Viego was able to sweep the battlefield through resets after resets, thus leading his team to victory in game 1.

With the momentum behind them, DWG KIA was even more proactive in game 2. Although Gen.G managed to balance out the game in the third dragon fight, DWG KIA managed to shut down Gen.G in the two teamfights that followed. With the lead they had, Khan’s Ornn proved to be too tanky for Gen.G, and with a huge teamfight victory to contest for the second Baron Nashor, DWG KIA closed out the game 2-0.

Meanwhile, in the first match of the day, Hanwha Life Esports defeated NS RedForce to take their third match victory of the split. Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s Renekton snowballed the game from the early solo kill against Kim “Gori” Tae-woo’s Sett. However, HLE’s other lanes faltered behind, giving NS room to scale. The mid-game teamfights proved to be too much for HLE, as NS was able to comfortably play their game around deokdam’s Ziggs, thus leading the series 1-0.

Game 2 of the series was all about Chovy’s Akali. From outputting damage at all points in the game to pulling aggro at the right times in teamfights, to say that he single handedly won the game for HLE would not be an understatement. HLE managed to tie up the series 1-1.

Game 3 was a very long one. HLE pulled off a successful early dive in the top lane, but NS bought time for Seo “deokdam” Dae-gil’s Ezreal to scale. Although deokdam managed to deal a lot of damage in teamfights, the gap that HLE built up in that time was not enough for NS to overcome. Eventually, HLE closed out the series after 50 minutes of back and forth duel between the two teams.
