On day 11 of the 2021 LCK Summer split, Afreeca Freecs defeated Hanwha Life Esports in the first match of the day. With a 2-0 clean sweep against HLE, AF were off to a much better start than in the Spring split. The second match of the day was an upset victory for Fredit BRION, as they defeated DWG KIA 2-1 and put a brake on their losing streak.

In game 1 of the first match, AF showed superiority over HLE at all stages of the game. Not only were there solo kills in the early game, the jungler for the team, Lee “Dread” Jin-hyeok, was able to get his team ahead; by the end of the first eight minutes of the game, the kill score was 5-0 in favor of AF. The team was able to use their lead to get all the objectives, taking game 1 against HLE.

However, HLE hit back hard in game 2. Although they did give up kills from a failed dive early on, they were able to close back the gap, mostly due to their support player, Oh “Vsta” Hyo-seong’s performance on Thresh. However, as 5 vs 5 teamfights took place, AF were able to slowly take back their lead. Despite HLE’s mid laner, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s Ryze having an abnormally large CS number, AF’s teamfighting proved to be superior than HLE.

In the second match of the day, Fredit BRION took on DWG KIA. BRO was able to take game 1, as their support player, Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong was the carry that led his team to victory. BRO’s bot lane was able to get ahead early on, and with outplays that came from Delight, where not only did he deny Gnar’s engages, he also locked down Heo “ShowMaker” Su’s Ezreal very well  in teamfights.

DWG KIA hit back hard in game 2. Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu pulled out Qiyana, who’s a champion that’s considered OP in solo queue, but not in competitive play. However, Canyon’s usage of terrain was very smart, which led to follow up by Sylas and Sett, thus scoring a lot of kills for DWG KIA. This game showed that Canyon’s not satisfied with being considered as the best jungler in the world; his performance on Qiyana looked as if he was hunting for the title of being ‘the best player in the world’.

In game 3, Fredit BRION subbed out their starting jungler, Eom “UmTi” Seong-hyeon, while their sub jungler, Lee “Chieftain” Jae-yub was put in for game 3. With a new jungler, as well as Kim “Lava” Tae-hoon pulling out Leblanc against Canyon’s Akali, BRO was able to find their momentum through a bot lane gank early on. While DWG KIA seemed formidable in teamfights that followed, BRO’s bot lane was able to shut them down in a key teamfight near the Baron pit. At that point, BRO’s lead was too much for DWG KIA to handle, which led to the series ending in a 2-1 victory for BRO.
