FlyQuest has secured its first win of the 2021 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split over Counter Logic Gaming, and it did so in style. FlyQuest top laner Eric "Licorice" Ritchie locked in the first ever Gwen pickin the LCS, and on the Hallowed Seamstress, the FLY top laner formed an absurdly overpowered 1-2 punch alongside the Viego of jungler Brandon Joel "Josedeodo" Villegas.

FlyQuest indexed fully into the top side of the map, with Licorice preferring the Ignite Summoner Spell over Flash to exploit Gwen's 1v1 advantage against the Gangplank of CLG top laner Finn "Finn" Wiestål, and with the help of Josedeodo and even sometimes the Sylas of mid laner Cristian "Palafox" Palafox, scaled into a massive carry threat that dealt as much as 6,000 damage in a single teamfight later on in the game. 

Due to their overpowered nature, it is rare that a team gets either Viego or Gwen in competitive play, especially because of Veigo's bugs that have barred him from competitive play up until recently. Viego and Gwen were both disabled for the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational for competitive integrity.

However, for Counter Logic Gaming to allow FlyQuest both picks was a huge surprise, and in hindsight, a costly blunder. After FLY's win, Licorice spoke to Julian "Pastrytime" Carr about his performance as the first Gwen in the LCS. "I think...Something must have gone wrong with their comms over on their side of the Pick/Ban, because Gwen is quite OP," said Licorice of CLG's draft phase in a wide grin. 

While Viego saw play three times today by TSM mid laner Tristan "PowerOfEvil" Schrage, Cloud9 mid laner Luka "Perkz" Perković, and of course, Josedeodo, Licorice's first Gwen of the LCS might be the last we see this weekend due to the confirmation that Gwen is at least as strong as previously evaluated in the meta.
